Remembering one useful choice
When you choose a language, the site saves the language code in a first-party cookie named mnl_lang and in your browser’s local storage. The cookie lasts up to one year and uses SameSite=Lax. This keeps pages in your chosen language and separates cached pages by language. You can remove it with your browser controls; the site will return to English until you choose again. WordPress or the hosting platform may also use essential security, session, login or cache cookies when needed.
Connections beyond this shoreline
The reviewed MinnesotaLakes.info source does not install an audience-analytics service, advertising pixel or behavioral profiling script. Like most websites, the web host may keep routine server and security logs such as an IP address, request time, requested page, browser information and error details to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the site.
Interactive Google Maps load only after you press the load button; opening one then sends your browser request to Google under Google’s own privacy terms. Forecasts come from the U.S. National Weather Service through a server-side request and are temporarily cached; the weather card does not embed an NWS tracker in your browser. Ordinary links to outside agencies or organizers take you to sites with their own practices.
When you raise a hand
The contact form collects the category you choose, your name, email address, subject, message and any source URL you provide. An event suggestion uses this same contact path; there is no separate public event account. The site validates and emails the message to the site team instead of creating a public post or saving the message as a WordPress content record. A one-hour, pseudonymous rate-limit value derived from the request IP address helps deter abuse. Email systems and backups may retain delivered messages.
We use a message to review and answer the inquiry, verify a correction or source, evaluate an event suggestion, or discuss a partnership. We do not publish the sender’s personal details without permission. Please do not send passwords, payment details, health records or other sensitive information.
Commercial relationships
The reviewed site source does not install an advertising network or personalized-ad system. If MinnesotaLakes.info publishes sponsored material or adds advertising, the relationship must be clearly labeled. We will update this policy before introducing tracking or data uses that materially change this description. A sponsorship inquiry sent through the contact form is handled like any other message.
Your say in the matter
The language preference remains until you clear it or its one-year cookie expires. The contact rate-limit value expires after one hour. We keep correspondence only as long as reasonably needed to answer, document a correction or source decision, maintain appropriate business records, resolve a dispute, protect the site or meet a legal obligation. Hosting logs, mail delivery and backups follow the retention settings of the relevant provider; exact live periods can vary and are not represented here as a fixed number.
